Bold Career Change at 47: Liver Transplant Anaesthetist to Blogger

I made the decision to leave my steady, fulfilling job as a ” Liver Transplant Anaesthetist and Critical Care Specialist” at the age of 47 in order to start a brand-new journey as a “professional blogger and entrepreneur”. This Bold Career Change at 47  wasn’t simple for someone with 23 years of medical expertise and 15 years of experience in critical care and  Liver transplant anesthesia. Now, however, three weeks into this new chapter, I can’t wait to tell you my experience.

My personal journey of reinvention, the difficulties I’ve encountered, the lessons I’ve learned, and my optimism for the future are all covered in this blog. This is for you if you’ve ever thought of taking a risk and going into the unknown.

Why Career Change at 47?

After working in the medical industry for decades, I became more and more interested in exploring other avenues. Even though I enjoyed my job and the difference I made in patients’ lives, I realized I could do more. The concept of developing something from scratch, building a business, and sharing my expertise and experiences through blogging proved enticing.

I made the decision to give this new endeavor my all attention and take a “sabbatical from my job”. I felt I had to try, even if it wasn’t an easy choice. With my funds to support me, I dived headfirst into the world of “blogging and digital marketing”.

The First Three Weeks:

My 3-Week Blogging Milestones – “2 Websites. 19 Blogs. 1.2k Events. 502 views “

It’s been exactly three weeks since I started this journey, and the progress I’ve made has been both challenging and rewarding. Here’s what I’ve accomplished so far:

1. Learning the Ropes:

I taught myself how to create websites, write blogs, and market them using online resources. Just willpower and a desire to study, without any official training.

2. Creating Two Websites:

I have launched two websites: “ [Liver Transplant Help] (https://livertransplanthelp.com)” and ”[Life Path Journey] (https://lifepathjourney.in)”. The first is about my personal journey and life lessons, while the second focuses on providing valuable information and support for liver transplant patients and their families.

3. Writing 19 Blogs :

In just three weeks, I’ve produced and published “19 blogs”, including two product reviews and one newsletter. I’m proud of the stuff I’ve produced, and every blog represents a new chapter in my journey.

4. Social Media Presence:

I’ve started sharing my work on ”Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Pinterest, and Twitter”. It’s been a learning curve, but I’m gradually expanding my audience.

5. Google Analytics:

My websites are already displaying excellent results. The early traction is encouraging, with “947-1.21k events, 113-137 users, and 306-502 views”. I’ve even had  a few clicks on two of my blogs, which is a minor but important accomplishment.

Challenges and Lessons:

Take the leap and trust the process

Career Change at 47 hasn’t been without its challenges. Here are some of the key lessons I’ve learned so far:

1. Self-Discipline: In the absence of a regular job’s structure, I’ve had to establish my own routine and maintain my discipline. It has put my ability to organize my time to the test.

2. Ongoing Education: The digital landscape is expansive and dynamic. I’ve had to pick up new skills all the time, like social media marketing and SEO.

3. Patience and Persistence: Establishing an internet presence requires time. I’ve had to tell myself to have patience and keep going even if I don’t see results right away.

4. Balancing Act: I’m giving this new endeavor my all, but I’m also careful to use my savings to cover my living expenses. Although it’s a fine balance, I’m determined to keep it.

Support Network (or Absence of It):

The absence of complete support from my family, friends and loved ones has been one of the most difficult parts of my journey. I genuinely wished to avoid talking to anyone for fear of discouraging my initiative. They weren’t on the same page, but they also didn’t publicly dissuade me. They quite allowed me to follow my aspirations without hindrance, but it also presented a challenge: I had to find inspiration and support within myself.

I looked to internet sources, and read books for direction and motivation. Social media random reels frequently offered fixes for the technical issues I ran up while building my websites and studying SEO and many more. But two resources in particular stood out as being really beneficial:

The Tools That Made My Journey Possible – “From Zero to 19 Blogs in 3 Weeks!”

1. YouTube: Saddam Kassim:

His well-structured and comprehensive lessons on digital marketing, SEO, and blogging were invaluable. His methodical approach simplified difficult subjects.

2. Ködee on Hostinger: Ködee’s assistance and advice on the Hostinger platform were really helpful. Ködee’s help was excellent, whether it was resolving website problems or comprehending hosting subtleties.

Additionally, my learning process was greatly streamlined by  “AI tools”. AI has revolutionised the way it keeps one productive and focused, from keyword research to article creation.

What I See in the Future?

Career Change at 47
“A new day, a new beginning”

Even though the future is unknown, I am determined and full of hope. Using “Adsense for advertisement, affiliate marketing, and other monetization strategies”, I hope to develop my blogs into profitable platforms that benefit my readers and bring in steady revenue.

I am also thrilled about the prospect of developing “digital products”, such ebooks and online courses, in order to reach a wider audience. I’m prepared to put my all into this voyage, which is only getting started. It’s a challenge, but I’m more than willing to go on.

  1. Hi Dr Tanuja, it’s really heartening to see someone making such a drastic change, which we as end user don’t have the guts, even though when we think of changing. Best wishes. My humble suggestion, do try podcast too.
